There was no internship scope given. However, a very basic briefing was given initially, with regular follow-ups. Some of the things I did during the stint included: 1) A Powerpoint on "20 Thing's To Do To Improve Your Career", which was used as a resource for Company HR. 2) Using Excel to review the age distribution and the years of service of all the staff in all the divisions, Paramount Corporation Bhd (PCB), Paramount Property Development Sdn Bhd (PPD), KDU University College (KDU UC), KDU College Penang (KDU Penang) and Sri KDU Smart School (Smart School). 3) Making a Powerpoint about OutBoarding. 4) Doing a study on Key Performance Indicators, Key Results Areas and Balanced Scorecards. 5) Making a Presentation about Paramount Corporation Bhd, Corporate Information, Subsidiaries, an Overview, Senior Management, Etc. 6) Reviewing and making with Excel, Benefit Schedules for PCB and all subsidiaries (PPD, KDU UC, KDU Penang and Smart School). 7) An interview chart, selecting questions for potential interviews 8) Creating a job description for the Company Chief Financial Officer 9) Creating, using Excel, the paygrade scale for Paramount Corporation Bhd and subsidiaries 10) Sitting on the planning committee of "My Challenge 2013", a performing arts competition hosted by KDU UC 11) Preparing for and being part of Paramount Corporation Bhd Delegation for KDU UC's "Career Fair"What did you learn?
As a guy fresh out of high school, and having no prior knowledge of the corporate world, albeit only through textbooks, my stint here was really insightful. I've gotten the chance to see things from a different view. Since my goal was to gain experience, I can say that this was a really, really good experience for me altogether. I've gotten to meet new people, learn new things, and above all, gain experiences that you can never get from just reading a text book. Also, the fact that the Senior Management (Up to the CEO and COO) are very easy to reach and talk to is a plus point. You (the intern) will feel very much part of the company and that each department is very close-knit and very friendly. Was your supervisor supportive?
My mentor actively involved me and ensured I gained from the internship. My mentor also made up for lack of structure with active improvisation. What could be improved? What could you have done better?
I tended to get bored quite often, but to tell the truth, I really can't think of anything bad!Advice for future interns?
Interns and college students who want an all-rounder insight. Also, those who have a preference for working with a conservative, close-knit company.
