Commercial BankingApart from my supervisors being really helpful and attentive to when I needed guidance, the office culture in general is a very welcoming one. I remember we used to end work and head to the rec room for some table tennis before heading home. I was put into a special team tasked with organizing and updating the bank's international database. I was given a range of tasks, each assessed at different intervals (daily to weekly to monthly). For most tasks I was given independence to execute them in my own way and most of the time I was allowed to work on my own and only reported in when a particular task was completed.A bit about your intenrship interview
I was most asked about my previous internship and extra curriculum activities I had listed in my cv. Apart from that, I was also asked a few basic finance questions. What did you learn?
I definitely gained a lot particularly the insight of how a bank works. Besides that, the ability to manage time, prioritize and handle stress will always stay with me regardless of the field of work I choose to venture in in the future. Was your supervisor supportive?
My supervisors were really helpful and patient. Knowing that the task at hand was a major one, they took the time to clearly explain what it was that they wanted. Even when I messed up on one occasion, they kept a cool head and instructed me on how I was to proceed from there. Unlike what many think, they also cared for my well being, often insisting I go for lunch and then only return to my work. On Christmas Eve, the boss even paid our floor a visit to shoo everyone out of the office at 5 sharp insisting we go home and spend time with our loved ones. What could be improved? What could you have done better?
I felt I could've learned a lot more. However this can only be attributed to how short my internship was and my failure to ask questions during my early weeks.Advice for future interns?
Don't be afraid to ask! Most of us, like me, take time to warm up and by the time we finally hit a gear and learn something our internship is over! Hit the ground running and make everyday count from the get go!
