The tasks and projects given vary from one division to another. We were placed under 6 divisions in the span of 12 weeks, 2 weeks for each division : Civil, Prosecution, International Affairs, Law Revision & Law Reform, Drafting, and Advisory. In the span of 2 weeks, we rotate within the units under each department. The tasks or projects are usually related to the job scope or the role of each unit in AGC. When i was placed under Law Revision & Law Reform, i had the opportunity to be taught/hands-on how to translate Acts. My work was then assessed by a mentor or a supervisor who will point out my mistakes through a group discussion. Since my university required a logbook to be filled at the end of the day, the mentor/supervisor will have to endorse my logbook to signify that i have completed the tasks given for the day. What did you learn?
My biggest take-away lesson would be this : there are many angles to a law degree and litigation is only one small portion of it. It was interesting to see the many roles a law degree can offer in running a government. I wouldn't say i developed any new skill, but i definitely learned lots of things that are not offered in a local law school. Was your supervisor supportive?
The supervisors are all very supportive and encouraging. They are willing to listen and answer my queries. Overall i would say, the staffs in AGC are friendly people so ask away! What could be improved? What could you have done better?
Some of the departments did not get the memo that i was going to be attached to their respective department hence, a bit of chaos without proper preparation on their part. It also could've been better if they provide allowance for attachment students :)Advice for future interns?
Don't expect too much work because most files are confidential hence off-limits.
